The short answer
Cabot Cape Breton charges a seasonal green fee per round on each of its two championship courses, highest through the peak summer months of July and August and lower in the May and October shoulder windows. Resort guests pay a preferred rate and get priority on the tee sheet, while golfers who are not staying pay more and generally book closer to the date, subject to availability. A Harmonized Sales Tax of 14 percent applies on top of every rate, and caddies are an extra, worthwhile cost on courses that reward local knowledge.
The golf is the draw. Cabot Links, a Rod Whitman design opened in 2012, was the first true oceanside links built in Canada, a par 70 routed along the old Inverness coal town shore. Cabot Cliffs, the Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw layout opened in 2015 and 2016, is the dramatic clifftop par 72 with its postcard par 3 sixteenth above the Gulf of St Lawrence. A 10 hole par 3 short course, The Nest, completes the 46 holes. Both championship courses are walking only. Booking a round, step by step
Decide whether to stay or play as a visitor
A stay at the resort brings the preferred green fee, priority on the tee sheet and the easiest access to both courses, plus accommodation steps from the first tee. Playing as a visitor who is not staying is possible but tighter, especially in peak summer, when you generally book within about two weeks of your date.
Pick your window
July and August bring the warmest weather and the highest fees; May, June, September and October bring lower rates, firmer turf and a quieter links, with a real chance of wind off the Gulf. Match your dates to the experience and budget you want.
Book the rounds and the caddies
Reserve both Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs, and add caddies or bag carriers, which are by request and well worth it on these routings. Remember the 14 percent Harmonized Sales Tax on every rate, and budget caddie fees and gratuity on top of the green fee.
Plan the journey
Inverness sits on the west coast of Cape Breton Island, a scenic drive of roughly three to four hours from Halifax. Allow travel time, and consider folding in the Cabot Cliffs short course, The Nest, for an extra loop at sunset.
Build the wider trip
Most visiting golfers make Cabot the centrepiece of a Nova Scotia or wider Canada golf trip. We can route the whole thing, secure the tee times and book the lodging as one package.
On the day, and building a trip
Take a caddie, play a sensible set of tees and give yourself time to enjoy the setting, because the views over the Gulf of St Lawrence are half the round. For how the courses play, read the Cabot Links profile and the Cabot Cliffs profile, then plan the wider trip through our guide to golf in Nova Scotia and the roundup of the best courses in Nova Scotia. A tailored Canada golf holiday can handle the tee sheet, the caddies and the logistics for you.
