Golf in Copenhagen
The Danish capital pairs a polished city break with a cluster of fine parkland golf, all within 45 minutes of the centre. Play Scandinavia's oldest club among the deer in a royal hunting forest, a Martin Hawtree championship course that has hosted the European Tour, and a Ron Kirby design on the edge of the city. Long northern summer light means golf until late evening.

Why golf in Copenhagen
Copenhagen is one of the easiest golf city breaks in Europe. The clubs that matter sit in the green belt of North Zealand, the leafy coastal stretch running north from the city toward Helsingør, so a group can stay in a design hotel in the centre, eat at world class restaurants in the evening and still tee off twenty to forty five minutes away each morning. The golf is classic northern European parkland: mature trees, lakes, and the soft, well kept turf you get in a maritime climate.
The headline experience is history. Københavns Golf Klub, founded in 1898, is the oldest golf club in Scandinavia and plays across part of Dyrehaven, a UNESCO listed royal deer park where fallow deer wander the fairways. Add the Martin Hawtree championship layout at Simon's, the modern Ron Kirby course on the city fringe and the wooded charm of Rungsted, and Copenhagen makes a genuinely characterful long weekend that the non golfers will enjoy as much as the players.
The courses that matter
Simon's Golf Club · Martin Hawtree, 1993
A 27 hole Martin Hawtree championship complex near Helsingør, about 35 minutes north, and the first club in Denmark to host a European Tour event, in 2003. Mature, well conditioned and the area's most complete tournament test.
Kobenhavns Golf Klub, Royal Copenhagen · 1898
The oldest golf club in Scandinavia, founded in 1898 and routed since 1899 through Dyrehaven, a royal deer park where fallow deer roam the fairways. A historic, atmospheric round 20 minutes north of the city, unlike anywhere else.
The Royal Golf Club Copenhagen · Ron Kirby, 2010
A modern Ron Kirby design on Amager just outside the city centre, opened in 2010 and a host of the European Challenge Tour. Open, water guarded and immaculately kept, the most convenient quality round to the heart of Copenhagen.
Rungsted Golf Klub · 1930s
One of Denmark's most respected old clubs, laid out in a magnificent wooded park on the coast north of the city since the 1930s. Traditional, tree lined and little changed over the decades, a connoisseur's parkland round.
Furesø Golfklub
A scenic, well established club set in historic surroundings near Lake Furesø northwest of the city, a relaxed, attractive parkland course that rounds out a Copenhagen golf itinerary away from the championship venues.
Designers, founding years and tournament history verified June 2026 from the clubs and recognized course databases. Københavns Golf Klub, founded 1898, is the oldest club in Scandinavia and plays in Dyrehaven; Simon's is a Martin Hawtree design that hosted the European Tour in 2003; the Royal Golf Club is a Ron Kirby design opened in 2010; Rungsted dates to the 1930s. Access and conditioning change, so confirm with each club before planning.
When to go: the Copenhagen golf season
| Window | What to expect |
|---|---|
| May to Jun | The best of the year: long days, mild temperatures and courses at their freshest, with daylight stretching well into the evening |
| Jul to Aug | Peak summer and warmest, busiest with locals on holiday; book tee times ahead and enjoy golf until 9pm in the long Nordic light |
| Sep to Oct | A lovely, quieter shoulder with autumn colour through the parkland; cooler and a little wetter, with the season winding down by late October |
| Nov to Apr | Cold, short days and frequent course closures; not a window for a dedicated golf trip, though the city remains a fine winter break |
May to September is the golf season. Green fees and rates change by season and year; always confirm directly before booking.
Getting there, costs and where to stay
Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is one of the best connected in northern Europe, just 15 minutes from the city centre by metro, with direct flights from across the continent and North America. The clubs are spread along the coast and green belt north of the city, between 20 and 45 minutes by car, so a hire car or a driver makes a multi course trip simple. The Oresund Bridge also puts the Swedish courses around Malmo within easy reach if you want to add a country.
Denmark is not a cheap destination, but green fees are fair for the quality and the city does the rest of the work. Most golfers base in central Copenhagen for the food, design and culture, and drive out to the courses each day. We can pair the right city hotel with the best of the North Zealand clubs and arrange the tee times and transfers as one package.
