Galloway National
One of Tom Fazio's own favorites, Galloway National threads through South Jersey pinelands and along Reeds Bay, with par 3s that play across the marsh toward the Atlantic City skyline. A par 71 of about 6,901 yards, opened in 1995.

The verdict
Galloway National Golf Club is one of the most admired modern courses in New Jersey and a layout Tom Fazio himself has named among his very best work. It opened in 1995 on a wooded tract in Absecon, about ten miles north of Atlantic City, and plays as a par 71 of about 6,901 yards. Though not long by modern standards, it is exacting, with a course rating well above par and a high slope from the tips.
What sets Galloway apart is its setting. Fazio routed the holes through quiet pinelands and out onto the marshy banks of Reeds Bay, so that the course moves from sheltered, tree lined corridors to open, windswept ground with sweeping views across the water to the Atlantic City skyline. It is an exclusive members only club, and for the traveling golfer a memorable, scenic test reached through a member.

The holes worth the trip
The defining moments at Galloway are its par 3s, which play directly across the marshland and out toward the water. The long par 3 seventeenth is the signature, looking straight across the bay to the Atlantic City skyline, a one shot hole that demands a long, exposed carry to a green that feels suspended over the marsh. It is among the most photographed holes in the state.
Away from the water, Fazio used the rolling pinelands to create variety and shelter, with holes that turn through the trees before opening to the bay. The wind off the Atlantic is the great variable: on a calm morning the course can be charmed, while a stiff sea breeze turns the exposed holes into a stern, strategic examination of trajectory and nerve. The greens are quick and well contoured, in keeping with the club's exacting conditioning.
What stays with players is the contrast and the views. Few courses move so completely from intimate woodland to wide open bayfront, and fewer still finish with such a dramatic, skyline framed one shotter. It is Fazio at his most site specific and most memorable.
