The verdict
Pula is east Mallorca's tournament course. Founded in 1995 and rebuilt by the two time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal in the mid 2000s, it earned a run of professional events, including the Iberdrola Open and the Mallorca Open Senior, which tells you the layout can hold up to a serious test when the tees go back.
For the visiting golfer it offers an Olazabal design and a relaxed resort on the less crowded eastern side of the island, away from the Palma crush. It suits a group that wants a genuine course with room to breathe and a hotel on site. See our best of Spain ranking and the golf in Spain guide for context.

The holes worth the trip
Olazabal's redesign gave Pula the length and the contouring to host tour golf, with fairways that wind through pine and Mediterranean scrub and greens shaped by one of the finest short game players the game has known. From the back tees it is a real examination; from the regular markers it is a fair and enjoyable resort round.
The land rolls gently and the course makes good use of natural features, with strategic bunkering and well defended greens asking for thought rather than brute force. Local knowledge helps on the contoured putting surfaces, where Olazabal's touch around the greens is most clearly felt.
That it has hosted the Iberdrola Open and senior tour golf marks it out from the average resort track, and the quieter eastern setting near Son Servera makes for an unhurried day. It is an easy course to build a relaxed east coast Mallorca trip around.
