El Saler Parador Golf
El Saler is Javier Arana's masterpiece and one of the finest courses in continental Europe, opened in 1968 in the Albufera nature reserve south of Valencia. It moves from Scottish style links holes among the dunes to fairways carved through Mediterranean pine, and it has hosted the Spanish Open and a generation of admiring visitors.

The verdict
If you play one course on Spain's eastern coast, this is it. Javier Arana, the architect of Spanish golf, considered El Saler among his greatest work, and few who have walked it would argue. Opened in 1968, it threads through pine forest and then out into genuine duneland by the Mediterranean, where the wind and the running ground give it a links character rare on this coast.
The greens are vast, often more than 700 square meters, and beautifully natural, and the course was voted the best in continental Europe soon after it opened. It has hosted the Spanish Open more than once, including Bernhard Langer's win in 1984. Staying at the Parador hotel beside the links, this is the standout of a Valencia golf trip. Green fees ran from about 90 euros to around 130 euros at peak as an indicative 2026 guide; figures change by season and year. Always confirm the current rate directly before booking.
The holes worth the trip
El Saler's two characters are its glory. The inland holes run through tall umbrella pine, quiet and tree lined, before the course breaks out toward the sea and the duneland holes take over, exposed to the wind and playing firm and fast in the true links manner. The transition is one of the great experiences in Spanish golf.
Arana respected the land, keeping the pines and the great dune that screens the beach, and his greens are the course's signature: huge, subtly contoured and among the best he ever built. Putting and the long approach are where rounds are made and lost here.
The closing stretch by the sea has decided professional events and will test any visiting group. As the clear headline act of the Valencia coast, it anchors a trip that can add the resort courses of the wider region for contrast, all reached from the Parador beside the first tee.

Where to stay nearby
The obvious base is the Parador de El Saler itself, a modern state run hotel set right beside the links with the dunes and the Mediterranean on the doorstep, so golfers can walk from room to first tee. The Albufera nature reserve and its birdlife, and the city of Valencia, are close for non golf days.
El Saler is special enough to build a trip around on its own, but the wider Valencia and Costa Blanca region offers resort courses for contrast, and a group can easily reach the Alicante area to the south, including El Plantio, for additional rounds.
