Noordwijkse Golfclub
On the North Sea coast near Amsterdam, Noordwijkse is one of the great Dutch links, a Frank Pennink design that mixes wild dune holes with a stretch through pine woodland. Nine Dutch Opens have been won here, and access is guarded, which is part of the appeal.

The verdict
Noordwijkse opened in its present form in 1972, designed by the Englishman Frank Pennink across the dunes north of The Hague. It is a par 72 that runs through dramatic linksland and a quieter section of pine forest, with the wind off the North Sea the constant defence. Along with Kennemer and the Haagsche it is rated among the three finest links in the Netherlands.
The club has staged nine Dutch Opens, with Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie among the champions, and recent work by Mackenzie and Ebert has sharpened the course further. It is a private club that admits visitors only at limited times, so a round here feels earned, and the quality of the golf rewards the effort.

The holes worth the trip
The dune holes are the stars, tumbling between tall grassy ridges with blind shots and firm, running ground, while the woodland holes give the round contrast and shelter from the wind. The linksland is bumpy and natural, asking for imagination around the greens.
The wind sets the test. On a still day the course is gettable; when the North Sea breeze blows, club selection becomes guesswork and the deep bunkers gather anything loose. Keep the ball low and accept that par is a good score in a gale.
Conditioning is firm and fast in the links tradition, and the greens are subtle. This is a course for the player who values the genuine article over manufactured drama, and who plans ahead to secure a tee time.
