The verdict

Lubker is the most complete golf resort in Denmark and the easiest course in the country to build a trip around. Robert Trent Jones Jr routed three contrasting nines, Sand, Sky and Forest, over a wide expanse of heath, pine and birch on Djursland, the peninsula northeast of Aarhus, and they have matured into a layout that the World Golf Awards has repeatedly voted Denmark's Best Golf Course, most recently in 2025. The land does the heavy lifting, rolling enough to give every nine elevation, water and long views without ever feeling forced.

What sets it apart is the package. A modern spa hotel, apartments and holiday homes sit beside the clubhouse, a par 3 academy course extends the day, and the three nines can be paired in any order so the golf never repeats. For a Scandinavian buddies trip or a couples break that mixes golf and wellness, Lubker is the obvious anchor, and unlike the great private links of Britain and Ireland, it is genuinely open to visitors who book ahead.

The holes worth the trip

Each nine begins with a par 5 from the central clubhouse, so the round opens with a chance to make a number before the land tightens. The Sand nine is the most exposed and the most strategic, its fairways rumpled and its bunkering set into sandy banks that echo the heathland courses of the English commuter belt. The Sky nine climbs to the highest ground on the property and trades on the long views over Djursland, with approaches played to greens set against open sky.

The Forest nine is the shortest of the three at about 2,937 meters from the back, but the tree lined corridors and the streams that cross it make it the one that asks for the straightest driving. Pairing Sand with Sky gives the championship 18 that the resort presents for competition, a par 72 that rewards the player who can flight the ball through Jutland's coastal breeze and read greens that run true but full of movement.

None of it is tricked up. Jones gave Lubker width off the tee and interest around the greens, the modern resort blend that lets a mixed group enjoy the day while still testing the low handicapper who attacks from the right angle. The par 3 academy course is more than a warm up, a genuine short course that suits an evening nine in the long Nordic summer light.

The simplest answer is to stay on site. It suits couples and groups equally, and it keeps the whole trip on one bill.
