How we ranked them
Langkawi is a small market with a simple truth at the top: The Els Club Teluk Datai is the reason golfers fly here, and the other two courses are the supporting cast that turn a beach holiday into a golf trip. We ranked all three on design quality, condition, setting and value, weighted toward the experience a traveling golfer actually has on the day. The verdicts are ours, per our methodology.

The ranking
The Els Club Teluk Datai
An Ernie Els design of 6,750 yards squeezed between 10 million year old rainforest and the Andaman Sea, with marbled mountain peaks behind and monkeys in the trees. There is not a single bunker on the property; strategically placed trees and a meandering stream defend par instead, and the GPS equipped buggy is included in the fee. It is routinely rated among the most scenic courses in the world, and on this island it is simply in a different league. Indicative 2026 fees: MYR770 in the January to April peak, MYR695 from late April to December 20, MYR800 over the festive window, plus 10 percent service charge.
Gunung Raya Golf Resort
Max Wexler routed this par 72 across 300 acres of former rubber plantation in the foothills of Gunung Raya, the island's highest peak, and the result is the local's choice for a relaxed second round: generous fairways, big views of the mountain, and fees well below the Els Club. Condition swings with the season, but the value is real and the welcome is warm. Play it midweek in the morning before the heat builds.
99 East Golf Club
Formerly The Langkawi Golf Club and the oldest golf ground on the island, now playing as 99 East: a full 18 holes at par 72 stretching to 7,300 yards near Kuah, with hill and sea glimpses across the layout. It gives the island a genuine championship length test and a clubby, residential feel. For a 36 hole day, pair it with Gunung Raya and save the Els Club for a morning of its own.

Building the trip
The golf maps neatly onto the island: the Els Club sits on the quiet northwest tip beside The Datai's beach, Gunung Raya holds the green interior, and 99 East is near Kuah in the southeast, so nothing is much more than 45 minutes from anything else. Three or four nights covers all three courses with beach days between, and the drier months from roughly November to April are the comfortable window. Full pricing detail lives in our Langkawi green fees guide.
Langkawi also pairs naturally into a longer Malaysian swing with Kuala Lumpur's clubs or the Els Club's sister property at Desaru Coast, the spine of most Malaysia golf holidays. Ready to book a round? Compare rates and reserve tee times, and see our recommended resorts on the island.

Langkawi golf questions
How many golf courses are there in Langkawi?
Three 18 hole courses: The Els Club Teluk Datai in the northwest, Gunung Raya Golf Resort in the island's interior and 99 East Golf Club near Kuah.
How much does the Els Club Teluk Datai cost to play?
Indicative 2026 green fees are MYR770 from early January to late April, MYR695 from late April to December 20 and MYR800 over the festive season, each plus a 10 percent service charge and including a shared GPS buggy and insurance. Is the Els Club Teluk Datai really bunkerless?
Yes. The Ernie Els design uses strategically placed rainforest trees and a meandering stream to defend par instead of sand, one of very few championship courses in the world built without a single bunker.
When is the best time to play golf in Langkawi?
Roughly November to April is the drier, more comfortable window. The monsoon months bring heavy afternoon rain, so book morning tee times year round and expect humidity whenever you come.
