The Best Golf Courses in Cebu Island

Cebu is the Philippines' golf-and-beach island par excellence: a short flight from Manila, ringed by resorts, and home to a small but characterful set of courses, from a Gary Player layout perched high above the city to a 1928 founders' club in the heart of town. These are the five we would tee it up on, ranked with our verdicts.

How we chose

Cebu is not a numbers destination like Bangkok or the Algarve. It has a handful of courses, so our ranking rewards the rounds that genuinely justify a visitor's time and green fee: design quality and conditioning first, then a real sense of place and occasion, championship pedigree where it exists, and the practicalities of getting on as a traveling golfer. We favoured the courses that give a touring group a memorable day, not simply a tee within reach of the resort.

All five sit on Cebu Island itself, from the hills above Cebu City to the coast near Lapu-Lapu and Mactan, where most visitors stay. They share the tropical character of Philippine golf: lush, humid, beautifully green in the wet months, with caddies the norm and afternoon showers part of the rhythm of the day from June to November. The verdicts are ours; the designers, dates and yardages we cite are a matter of record.

The five best courses on Cebu Island

01

Alta Vista Golf and Country Club

Gary Player Black Knight design · opened 1994 · par 72

The round to build a Cebu golf trip around. Laid out by Gary Player's Black Knight design group and opened in 1994, Alta Vista sits on a bluff some five hundred feet above Cebu City, a par 72 of around 6,237 yards where almost every tee, fairway and green frames a view of the Queen City of the South and the islands beyond. A genuine championship test with real elevation change, it is the most complete and scenic golf on the island, and the easiest marquee round for visitors to arrange.

02

Cebu Country Club

Founded 1928 · parkland · par 72

The island's grand old club and its most prestigious address, founded by expatriates in 1928 and now a mature, tree-lined parkland of par 72 measuring around 6,677 yards in the heart of the city. Classic, well-conditioned and steeped in history, it is the connoisseur's round on Cebu. The catch is access: this is a private members club, so a visitor needs a member's introduction or a partner arrangement to play, and that is worth planning well ahead.

03

Mactan Island Golf and Country Club

Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan · coastal · par 71

The handy resort round, set on Mactan close to the airport and the cluster of beach hotels where most visitors stay. A par 71 with a pleasant coastal feel, coral-strewn ground, water hazards and bunkering around the greens, it is flatter and gentler than Alta Vista but supremely convenient, ideal for an arrival-day or departure-day game without crossing to the main island. The most accessible golf for a beach-based trip.

04

Club Filipino de Cebu

Danao City · valley parkland

A quieter, locals' favourite set in a green valley at Danao City, north of the capital. It trades the views and polish of Alta Vista for a relaxed, unhurried day and a warm club atmosphere, and the slightly longer drive keeps it off most visitors' radar. Worth the trip for golfers who like to play where the members do and want a calmer, more authentic round away from the resort circuit.

05

Liloan Golf Club

Liloan · coastal · short course

The wild card and the most casual on the list, a small coastal layout north of Cebu City with sea views and an easygoing, low-key feel. It is a short, fun knock rather than a championship examination, best for a relaxed warm-up round, a mixed-ability group or an extra game to fill a beach trip. Not a reason to fly to Cebu on its own, but a pleasant, scenic addition once you are there.

A loose map: Alta Vista and Cebu Country Club sit in and above Cebu City; Mactan Island Golf lies across the bridge near the airport and the beach resorts; Club Filipino is north at Danao City and Liloan on the coast between them. Designers, founding dates and yardages verified June 2026.
